Brenda Anne Wilson, Ph.D., is a professor of microbiology and the Associate Director of Undergraduate Education in the School of Molecular & Cellular Biology at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC). She holds joint appointments in pathobiology at the College of Veterinary Medicine and in biomedical and translational sciences at the Carle Illinois College of Medicine. Blenda Wilson (born January 28, 1941) is a retired American university administrator and educational executive who was the first African-American woman to become president of a large (over 25,000 students) American university. She was president of California State University, Northridge (CSUN) during the 1994 Northridge earthquake, one of the worst natural disasters in U.S. history. Wilson oversaw the rebuilding of CSUN over several years, costing nearly $400 million and repairing or rebuilding over 100 buildings on the campus.

Blenda Jacqueline Wilson was born in Perth Amboy, New Jersey. Her parents were Horace Lawrence Wilson and Margaret Brogsdale Wilson. She received her bachelor's degree from Cedar Crest College in Allentown, Pennsylvania in 1962, her master's degree from Seton Hall University in South Orange, New Jersey in 1965, and her Ph.D. from Boston College in 1979.

Wilson was born in Wales and migrated to Australia as a young girl with her parents and older sister in 1959.[2][4]
Career
Wilson has worked in the health industry since 1973,[2] training in nursing at the Royal Adelaide Hospital (RAH) from 1973 to 1976. She was later nurse manager at the RAH from 1985 to 1989. She then became Director of Nursing at Hampstead Rehabilitation Centre (HRC) from 1989 to 1992 and was promoted to CEO of HRC from 1992 to 1994.[5]
Wilson was CEO of the Cancer Council SA from 2003 to 2015.[6] She was a member of the board of Burnside War Memorial Hospital, Adelaide between 2003 and 2011.[6] and a former Board Director of Opera SA
