Henry Barnard (January 24, 1811 – July 5, 1900) was an American educator and reformer.
Biography
He was born in Hartford, Connecticut on January 24, 1811[1] and attended Wilbraham & Monson Academy. He graduated from Yale University in 1830 and was admitted to the Connecticut bar in 1835. In 1837–1839, he was a member of the Connecticut House of Representatives,[2] effecting in 1838 the passage of a bill, drafted and introduced by himself, which provided for "the better supervision of the common schools", and established a board of "commissio

GARTER, BERNARD (fl. 1570), poet, who describes himself on his title-pages as citizen of London, was, according to Hunter, second son of Sir William Garter of London, and father of a Bernard Garter of Brigstocke, Northamptonshire. But in the ‘Visitation of London,’ 1633–5 (Harl. Soc. i.), ‘Barnerd Garter of Brikstocke,’ Northamptonshire, is described as the son of Thomas Garter, the husband of Elizabeth Catelyne, and the father of George Garter, who was living in 1634. Garter wrote: 1. ‘The tragicall and true historie which happened betweene two English lovers, 1563. Written by Ber. Gar., 1565. General Sir Andrew Francis BarnardGCB GCH (1773 – 17 January 1855) was an Irish British Army officer. He served in various capacities in the West Indies, the Cape of Good Hope, Canada, the Netherlands, Sicily, Spain and in the Napoleonic Wars including the Battle of Waterloo for which service he was highly decorated. After his retirement from active duty, he served in a number of civilian positions, being promoted to general four years before his death.
Biography
Barnard was born at Fahan, County Donegal, Ireland. He was the son of the Rev. Dr. Henry Barnard, of Bovagh, County Londonderry (second son of William Barnard, Bishop of Derry, and brother of Thomas Barnard, Bishop of Limerick), by his second wife, Sarah née Robertson of Bannbrook, County Londonderry.[citation needed]
