The award, conferred by the Jewish Confederation of Ukraine and the Ukrainian Jewish Encounter, will be presented at an event in Amb. Lauder’s honor on September 27, 2018 in New York City.
Amb. Lauder is being recognized for his support of Ukraine’s Jewish community and his promotion of Ukrainian-Jewish cooperation.
Known globally for his important civic and philanthropic work, Amb. Lauder has been an ardent supporter of the revival of Jewish life in central and eastern Europe in communities devastated by the Holocaust and which remained suppressed under Communism. Ronald S. Lauder has served as president of the World Jewish Congress since 2007. An international philanthropist, investor, art collector, and former public servant, Lauder also demonstrates his deep commitment to his Judaism through a wide range of other philanthropic endeavors that reach around the world.
As president of the WJC, Ambassador Lauder meets regularly with heads of state, prime ministers and government representatives to discuss and advance causes of concern to Jews and Jewish communities internationally. He advocates for the importance of supporting Israel, especially in times when the State or its citizens are under attack, and he encourages and aids the development of vibrant Jewish communities around the world.
Ambassador Lauder also serves as Chairman of the Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial Foundation, which supports the preservation of the authentic remains of the former German Nazi concentration and extermination camp. Ronald Steven Lauder (born February 26, 1944) is an American businessman and pro-Israel political activist. He and his brother, Leonard Lauder, are the sole heirs to the Estée Lauder cosmetics company, founded by their parents, Estée Lauder and Joseph Lauder, in 1946.[1][2]
According to Forbes, Lauder has a net worth of $4.5 billion dollars as of September 2022 (number 563 on Forbes' list of billionaires).[3]
Early life and education
Lauder was born in New York City to a Jewish family, the son of Estée Lauder and Joseph Lauder, founders of Estée Lauder Companies. He is the younger brother of Leonard Lauder, chairman of the board of the Estée Lauder Companies.
He attended the Bronx High School of Science and holds a bachelor's degree in International Business from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania. He studied at the University of Paris and received a Certificate in International Business from the University of Brussels.
