Shery A young singer and songwriter with a fine poetic and melodic instinct, Shery has been described by media such as KTNC.com Azteca América as “Guatemala’s new voice to sweeten the world.” With just 18 months of a musical career, she has managed to place her first three singles at the top of the radio charts in her native Guatemala.

Finalist among 15,000 entries from around the world in the prestigious “John Lennon Composition Contest”, his song “Love is a Ghost” has also been awarded in the “International Unisong Composition Competition”, and in the “World Olympiad of Performing Arts “, in Los Angeles.

Who is Shery?

Shery is a GuatemalanLatin pop singer and songwriter. She has recordedsongs in Spanish and Italian, and sharedstage with such internationalsuperstars as Chayanne, Cristian Castro, Manuel Mijares, Miguel Bosé, Enrique Iglesias, Vikki Carr and Aleks Syntek. Two of her originalcompositions have been finalists in the John LennonSongwriting Contest, in New York.

"El amor es un fantasma", her first album, was released in January 2008 after two and a half years of production. The CD is named after the first song ever written by the artist, which debuted in radio with 26 straight weeks in the Top 40 in her natal Guatemala in 2005.

The album features 11 original songs written by Shery, a song written by legendary Spanish songwriter José Luis Perales, as well as duets with Italian producer / songwriter Francesco Sondelli, Guatemalan singer Jorge "El Bardo" and another with Cuban-American vocalist Daniel René, former member of Latin Pop band Menudo / MDO. Shari Turitz is the Vice President for Programs at AJWS, leading the Programs Division and overseeing AJWS’s grant making, domestic and international strategy. She brings with her more than 20 years of experience in human rights grantmaking, capacity building and advocacy, and 15 years of senior management and program development experience.

Shari began her career as a human rights activist working to end U.S. intervention in the Salvadoran and Guatemalan civil wars. Shari worked for The Synergos Institute for more than a decade, where she led its largest global program to develop leadership networks of civil society professionals in Asia, Africa and the Americas. Before joining AJWS in 2013, Shari served as director of programs for the Open Society Foundation’s Public Health Program, co-leading a 55-person global team of international grant makers and advocates.

Shari holds a B.A. in political science and Latin American studies from Tufts University and an M.A. from the Columbia University School of International and Public Affairs.
