Lianna Haroutounian

In the 2024/25 season, Haroutounian headlines the San Francisco Opera’s season opening with Verdi Un Ballo in Maschera (Amelia), in a new production by Leo Muscato and conducted by Eun Sun Kim. This season will also see a series of exciting role debuts including Isolde in Wagner Tristan und Isolde (Opéra Royal de Wallonie Liège) and the title role in Strauss Ariadne auf Naxos (Teatro de la Maestranza Sevilla). Haroutounian will also reprise her signature roles of Puccini Tosca at Seattle Opera, and Cilea Adriana Lecouvreur at Théâtre du Capitole de Toulouse. 


Recent operatic engagements include her critically acclaimed role debuts of Lisa (Tchaikovsky Pique Dame) in Barcelona and the title role in Ponchielli La Gioconda in Napoli. Considered one of the most promising Verdi sopranos of her generation, her remarkable qualities of lirico-spinto soprano have allowed her to tackle a wide operatic repertoire, facing on the one hand both Verdi and Puccini, and on the other hand French, Russian, and chamber music repertoire.
Born in Armenia, she studied piano and singing at the Yerevan National Conservatory, where she obtained a diploma of Higher Studies in Singing with S. Danelian, and later continued her studies in France at the Center de Formation Lyrique de l’Opéra-Bastille.
Throughout her career she has sung roles such as Elizabeth de Valois (Don Carlo) at the Royal Opera House, with Antonio Pappano and Jonas Kaufmann, at the Metropolitan Opera with Yannick Nézet-Séguin, at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden with Maestro Zanetti, in Zurich under the baton of Fabio Luisi and at the Verbier Festival with Daniel Harding; Amelia
