Christopher Maurice Brown was born May 5th, 1989 in Tappahannock, Virginia. After teaching himself to sing and dance, Brown participated in local talent shows and his church choir as a child. His mother recognized her son’s gifts, and decided to help him land a record deal. By the time he was 13, Hitmission Records discovered this young talent.

Brown recorded his first demo while still in high school, and Hitmission shopped it around to New York labels. He finally signed with Jive Records in 2004, and soon moved to New York.

In 2005, he left Essex High School and headed for New York City to pursue a music career, and soon after, he signed with Jive Records at 16 years old. His self-titled debut album, Chris Brown, peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 and sold 154,000 copies within its first week. It was RIAA-certified triple platinum in the United States, platinum in Australia, and gold in Canada and the United Kingdom. The single “Run It!” from the album zoomed to No. 1 on Billboard Hot 100 and remained in the top ten for six consecutive weeks, selling 3 million copies. Chris Brown won his first Grammy Award in more than a decade at the 67th awards ceremony on Sunday, becoming a two-time Grammy winner. The singer earned the award for Best R&B Album for 11:11 (Deluxe), released in April 2024. It is the extended edition of his eleventh studio album, 11:11.

Brown last took home a Grammy in 2012 when he won in the same category for his record F.A.M.E. The 35-year-old was also nominated for Best R&B Performance for his track “Residuals” and Best African Music Performance for “Sensational.”
